Georgia Elite Classic Notebook: Player highlights

SOPHOMORE GAME

POWDER SPRINGS - Running backs and defensive linemen were dominant during the sophomore game at McEachern High School on Thursday with a few receivers also enjoying good days despite windy conditions.

The Americans won by a final score of 27-16, after both defenses controlled the action for the first three quarters. In fact, the score was 13-9 with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter before Joel Girtman from the Americans team picked up a fumble and raced it 79-yards for a touchdown.

PLAYERS THAT STOOD OUT FROM NATIONALS TEAM:

STATS:
Nine for 67 yards (7.1 ypc) with a long run of 42 yards.

The Grayson standout is very quick and elusive in the open field and showed burst breaking a 42-yard run in the 3rd quarter.

STATS:
Four receptions for 58 yards.

Blaylock is excellent after the catch with his elusiveness and ability to make defenders miss.

STATS:
Three receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown.

Jackson was a standout all week during practice and that carried over into the game today. One the first play of the day, the Coffee County receiver blew past his defender for an easy 70-yard touchdown reception. He has zero offers today, but I expect that to change very soon.

This Grayson offensive tackle is a name to know moving forward. The sophomore has great feet and plays with excellent bend. Morris has a prototypical left tackle build, and you will hear plenty more out of this young man in the years to come.

STATS:
Four total tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and one pass breakup.

Walker continued his strong showing this week with a solid performance this afternoon. The Upson Lee edge rusher has a very quick first step, and cause havoc in his opponents backfield.

STATS:
Theee and one half total tackles, one pass breakup

Watson alternated between corner and safety throughout the game. I love his size and instincts at the position. Was in position for two interceptions, but could not haul either one in. The Grayson standout is going to be one of the top defensive backs in the state and country in the future.

AMERICANS TEAM

STATS:
Five carries for 72 Yards (14.4 ypc) and a touchdown.
Two receptions for 18 yards.

I was told about this kid before the game, and he did not disappoint. The Lowndes County standout had blazing speed and is a homerun threat every time he touches the ball. Tisdale shot through the hole for a 60-yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter to put the Americans team up 13-9.

STATS:
Four receptions for 65 yards.

Listed as an all-purpose back in the database, he was a receiver today and an electric one. Bedgood is slippery in the open field and is hard to bring down in the open field.

Another offensive tackle you will hear plenty about in the next couple years. Jones is very good in pass protection showing great feet and a nasty first punch. Clemson and Georgia are both pursuing the Callaway standout hard.

STATS:
Five and one half total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup

This kid was unblockable today for the Americans team. I know of at least five quarterback pressures throughout the day. Smith was probably the best defensive end I saw this afternoon.

STATS:
Three and one half total tackles, one fumble recovery (TD), one interception, three pass breakups

This kid was kind of under the radar to me until today. Girtman was all over the field, and always was in great position to make a highlight play. Girtman has the potential to be the next best thing out of Westlake on the defensive side of the ball.
