Georgia basketball coach Mark Fox reached back to his past with his hiring of David Carter as the Bulldogs’ new assistant coach.

His associate head coach for five seasons at Nevada, Carter served as head coach of the Wolf Pack once Fox left for Georgia in 2009.

“I am very happy to have David joining our staff,” Fox said in a statement. “He assisted me at Nevada and I aggressively pursued him when this opportunity arose. He’s a proven winner, a great evaluator, and recruiter, and the type of man I want in our program. We have always had great chemistry on my staff and I welcome his expertise.”

A graduate of St. Mary’s, where he starred with the Gaels, ultimately named to the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006, Carter is a native of Los Angeles, winning state championships at Crenshaw High in 1983 and 1985. At Nevada in 2012, he led the Wolf Pack to the Western Athletic Conference crown with a record of 28-7.

Carter takes over for Yasir Rosemond who was hired as an assistant by Alabama.

“David won two state championships in high school (Crenshaw, Los Angeles), a championship in college (St Mary's), and another as a head coach after succeeding me at Nevada,” added Fox. “He will make an immediate impact on our team and is exactly what I feel our perimeter players need at this time. Obviously, he'll also broaden our recruiting base with his contacts. He was a key part in our signing of Ramon Sessions (South Carolina), JaVale McGee (Chicago), and Kirk Snyder (Los Angeles) - all of whom played in the NBA.”
