As UGASports continues its series of Exit Interviews, we touch base with former running back Keith Marshall who has a busy month coming up, which he will explain.
A severe knee injury kept the North Carolina native from having the career he might have hoped, but he's leaving Athens with no regrets.
UGASports.com: How would you sum up your career and what did it mean to you to get the chance to play at UGA?
Marshall: “My career definitely had its ups and downs. Things didn’t always go the way I had planned but I have learned valuable lessons through adversity that I believe will help me throughout the course of my life. I am very grateful that I was able to live out my dream of playing college football at the University of Georgia and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
UGASports.com: What was your favorite game?
Marshall: “Freshman year Tennessee and Auburn. Sophomore Year LSU and South Carolina. Senior year Kentucky.”
UGASports.com: What did college and your experiences teach you about yourself that maybe you didn't know before?
Marshall: “I discovered many things about myself throughout my four-year stay in Athens. Most of these things were bigger than just football and I am extremely grateful for that."
UGASports.com: Tell what you're up to now as you prepare for your shot at the NFL?
Marshall: “I am in Miami preparing for the NFL Combine and Pro Day at UGA.”
UGASports.com: What's the one thing you will miss about your time with the Bulldogs?
Marshall: “Can’t name just one thing. I will miss the city of Athens, which has to be the greatest college town on Earth. I will miss Snelling breakfast and Ms. Sandra’s hugs at the door. I will miss wearing the G on my helmet and getting to play between the hedges with 92,000+ fans cheering us on. The thing I will undoubtedly miss the most are the bonds I’ve built, both on and off the field, with some of my teammates over the past four years. Hopefully those will never fade.”
UGASports.com: This was obviously a tough season in some respects. Was it still a fun year for you, or did everything that happen kind of sour it for you?
Marshall: “This past season had its ups and downs just like every season. Obviously some things occurred towards the end of the season that nobody could have predicted or prepared for. I hold pride in the way we stuck together as a team through all the distractions and finished strong. This bowl game was by far the most fun bowl I experienced because of the way we competed and had fun during practice and then carried that energy over into the game. It was even more fun because many people outside of the team doubted we would be ready.”
UGASports.com: Regarding the fact that you guys were still able to win 10 games, what did that say about the 2015 Georgia Bulldogs?
Marshall: “Our goal was to win a championship and although we weren’t able to achieve that, I am proud to have been a part of a team who chose not to fold and instead fight through adverse circumstances.”
UGASports.com: As you're preparing for the next level, who has given you the best advice about what lies ahead, and what has that advice been?
Marshall: “My parents as always.”
UGASports.com: How would you like people to remember you?
Marshall: “I’d like to be remembered as a person who did the right things on and off the field while setting a good example for younger kids to observe.”
