ATLANTA – When five-star Ashton Hagans announced he was going to be a Georgia Bulldog, Shiloh’s Elias King said one thought immediately popped into his mind.

“Commit,” said King, who was already leaning heavily toward the Bulldogs even before Hagans’ decision surprised many in the college basketball recruiting world.

For King, this was just icing on the proverbial cake.

“Ashton’s the kind of player who looks to get his guys involved, to get his guys going; that’s what he does, so his decision was very big for me,” King said. “As soon as he committed I was like ‘Ok, now Georgia is an even bigger target.’ It was always big, but now it was bigger.”

Of course, King is no slouch himself.

The 6-foot-8 shooting guard comes in at No. 39 in Rivals’ latest player rankings, and along with Hagans at No. 6, gives Georgia its highest-ranked duo in recent memory.

Putting the ball in the bucket is King’s specialty.

“As a shooter I thrive on getting to my spot and knocking down shots,” King said. “I feel I can score from all three levels.”

However, he feels there’s more to his game than that and there are areas he’ll need to improve before he arrives in Athens.

“It’s really more off the court things. I need to get bigger and stronger. If I can get that, I can be a pro,” King said. “I need to work on my ball-handling because I’m getting taller and taller. I need to work on my defense, it’s getting better and better, rebounding. But what I like to do is score from all level; I like to get in transition and shoot.”

King feels his mid-range game is quickly becoming a strength.

“In AAU I just shot threes and layups, never mid-range,” Kind said. “When a person is guarding me they don’t think I’m going to stop and pull up.”

If it’s up to King, he and Hagans won’t be the only elite prospect joining Georgia’s class of 2019. Five-star small forward Christian Brown is also keeping a close eye on the Bulldogs.

King said he’s making sure Georgia stays on his mind.

“I’ve been telling him the things that he does well, Georgia needs, and he’ll be on the floor because he’s a very energetic guy,” King said. “He’s a big-time finisher.”

King, meanwhile, brings a skill set that any team – not just the Bulldogs – love to have.

“They like that I can shoot the ball. They like that I’m an elite-level shooter. Not too many elite-level shooters come around,” he said. “Everybody’s athletic, and everybody can jump out the gym. But when you get an elite-level shooter, the offense spreads and it gets your athletic people going.”
