Dawgs check out new center

Georgia's basketball program signed three prospects during the early signing
period last month, but still has one more scholarship to use during the late

signing period in April if they choose to. With that scholarship, the Bulldogs
could go in a couple different directions as far as which position they take.
If they choose to go after another post player to join Derek Ogbeide in the
front court, Fort Lauderdale (FL) Pine Crest center Antonio Vrankovic could be
an option for head coach Mark Fox. Through five games so far this season, the
6-foot-10, 250-pound prospect is averaging 28 points, 15 rebounds and four
blocks per contest.
Vrankovic's recruitment, however, is still relatively quiet, but he's starting to hear
from bigger schools.
"Everything is still open, but the schools I talk to the most are La Salle,
Florida Gulf Coast and San Francisco," Vrankovic told UGASports. "I've been
texting with a coach with Georgia and an assistant from Indiana has been hitting
me up lately too. Those are the biggest schools that have recruited me."
The Florida native knows a lot about Georgia through his peers.
"I actually know a lot about Georgia because a lot of kids from Florida that I
know go to either Florida or Georgia," he said. "My really close friend went up
there and said it is only about an hour from Atlanta and the people are really
nice. I know it's a really good school because some of my friends got deferred
that are really smart. That's what I like. I want basketball and education to be
really good."
Assistant coach Jonas Hayes has been the coach from Georgia keeping contact with Vrankovic.
"I first started talking to him the summer before last and now he's started
recruiting me hard again," he said. "He's been asking me about how my season is
going and I've asked him about basketball and about their school."
Indiana is also an intriguing option for Vrankovic, who played for the Florida
Vipers during travel season.
"Indiana is a great school. Tom Crean is a great coach. It gives me the
opportunity to be successful not just in basketball but they have probably one
of the best business schools in the country. It's a small town and basketball is
everything there. They have a history behind them."
Vrankovic is hoping one of the two programs decides to offer him.
"Both Georgia and Indiana would be a big honor for me to play for," he said.
As for when a decision could come, Vrankovic said is waiting to see what happens
with Georgia and Indiana.
"It depends on these two schools and if they offer and bring me on campus for a
visit. I already visited San Francisco and I'm probably going to make a visit to
La Salle, but I'm not sure when. It could be before or after the season when I
decide. I'm still open to other schools too."
