Led by the play of senior point guard J.J. Frazier, Georgia is on a roll lately as the Dawgs have won three straight games and five of their last six. The recent success has put them right back in the mix for a potential NCAA Tournament bid.

We caught up with former Georgia star and current SEC Network analyst Jarvis Hayes to get his take on Frazier, Georgia's win streak, NCAA Tournament hopes, and more.

UGASports: What are your thoughts on this run J.J. Frazier has been on lately?

Jarvis Hayes: "He is absolutely amazing, especially when you factor in that Yante Maten has been out. When Yante was healthy, Georgia's NCAA hopes were on life support. It's just ironic that when he goes down, J.J. steps up and is averaging 31 points in his last four games. It's amazing. He's probably going to go down as one of, if not, the most popular players in school history just because of his effort and what he does. He might single-handedly get them into the NCAA Tournament based on what he's done lately."

UGASports: What type of relationship do you have with J.J. Frazier?

JH: "I know him real well. I had about a 30-minute conversation with him today about all this and about how he's playing and what it means. The streak he's on now, I told him he won't fully appreciate it until you come back five or ten years late to know what type of effect he's had on people as a fan. I told him about my personal experience. He's in one of the best stretches of any player in the history of the school lately."

UGASports: What makes Frazier special from skill standpoint?

JH: "I think all of it ties back to his heart and his determination. Obviously his quickness is the thing that jumps out at how he gets from point A to point B and him being able to get his shot off at any time. A lot of that goes back to his quickness. Another thing that stands out is he's such a leader. Georgia's hasn't had a guy like that in a while. You see him in huddles and he's talking just as much if not more than Coach Fox. He's so good at getting guys in their spots. When you look at the story of J.J., when he first showed up at Georgia, everybody was counting him out. To follow his success to this point, if Georgia goes on to do some damage in the SEC Tournament and then in the NCAA Tournament, there will be a movie about James Frazier."

"He's a matchup nightmare. You at guys like De'Aaron Fox at Kentucky who is a good defender. He can't do anything with J.J., especially in a ball screen situation. You put a bigger guy on him, he goes by him. You put a smaller guy on him, it's easier for him to get his shot off. In ball screen situations, what do you do? He's so hard to defend. Auburn just started running two guys at him right when he crossed half-court to get the ball out of his hands. He's a game-changer, especially when he gets into a flow like he is now. He changes other teams' game plans."

"As a fan of Georgia, it's been amazing to watch what he's doing. Words can't describe how happy I am for him. Listen, they are going to have to make room on that board up there in Stegeman for him."

UGASports: You mentioned how Georgia has played better since Yante Maten went down. Obviously Frazier's success has been a big part, but what else do you think has helped them have some success lately?

JH: "I think when you lose a guy like Yante, I think Coach Fox simplified his system from what it looks like. They went from trying to find intricate ways to get Yante the ball inside because you have to run stuff for him. He's not a ball handler that creates his own plays. With J.J., he has the ball, so it simplifies everything you want to do and get other guys involved. At the end of the day though, J.J. has been a huge part. They are playing Tyree Crump now, so you have to simplify it. They are playing E'Torrion Wilridge at the '4' now, so you have to simplify it for him. Guys that hadn't play a lot of minutes this year now have to step up for Yante Maten and make it simple. "

UGASports: The Dawgs are still in play for the Big Dance in a couple weeks. Do you think Georgia looks like an NCAA Tournament team?

JH: "A fully healthy team with Yante Maten, they are an NCAA Tournament team. This version of the team right now is an NCAA Tournament team only because of the way J.J. is playing."

UGASports: Looking at the rest of the schedule, what do you think needs to be done for them to get good news on Selection Sunday in nine days?

JH: "If they beat Arkansas, then one win in the SEC Tournament will almost ensure they make the tournament. It would be hard to deny them at that point with the RPI and strength of schedule they have. South Carolina won a lot of games last year, but their RPI and strength of schedule wasn't very good. If they don't beat Arkansas, they might have to make another run to the semifinals. Right now, they look like they are just outside in the First Four Out. So beat Arkansas on the road would boost them in the NCAA Tournament with one SEC Tournament win. If they beat Arkansas and get to Saturday in the SEC Tournament, I think it's a lock."

UGASports: What are you up to these days?

JH: "I'm the head coach of the Atlanta Celtic 16U this year. Last year I was an assistant with the 16U team that is moving up and now I'm the head coach of the 16U this year. Obviously I'm loving my job with the SEC Network. I'm going down to Auburn tomorrow for their game on Saturday. I train kids here in Atlanta and I've talked to people about expanding my media presence to do more appearances. I'm just keeping busy. It's great to be able to stay around the game I love and be able to impact kids the way I can. Just the eagerness in their eyes when I try to instruct them is priceless."
