To the surprise of nobody, guard DeShayne Montgomery has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.
The transfer from Mount St. Mary’s was expected to play a pivotal role for the Bulldogs. But after being suspended for the first 11 games due to academic reasons, the Florida native never quite gained a foothold in the Bulldog backcourt
Despite scoring a season-high 22 points against Charleston Southern, and 12 later in the season against LSU, Montgomery did not play in the six previous games leading up to the NCAA Tournament, before playing briefly in Georgia’s loss to Gonzaga.
Before coming to Georgia, Montgomery was voted the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year after recording nine 20-point performances, including six of his team’s final seven games.
He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
