With NFL training camps having only recently started, each of the league’s 32 teams currently features a 90-man roster. Ultimately that number will trim down to 53 players. According to these active rosters, there are 57 former Georgia players in the league as the preseason gets underway.
The eye-popping total follows last season, when the 44 Bulldog players on NFL Week 1 rosters ranked fourth among schools (behind Alabama with 58, LSU and Ohio State with 52, and just ahead of Notre Dame with 37). The season before in 2021, 35 former Georgia players made NFL Week 1 rosters.
Currently, all but six of the NFL teams are represented by at least one former Georgia player. With six, the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster features more Bulldogs than any other NFL team (see table below), although the Los Angeles Rams have only one fewer with five. Following the Rams, eight different teams have three former Georgia players on their rosters.
The position most represented by Bulldogs currently in the NFL is linebacker with nine. This is followed by six wide receivers and three positions with five players each. There are nine Georgia offensive linemen in the league (four tackles, three guards, two centers).
From a dozen players with rookie status to Matthew Stafford, who is entering his 15th season in the league, Georgia’s level of experience in the NFL is wide-ranging. Still, on average, the group is relatively green. Of the 57 former Georgia players currently on NFL rosters, 42 of them, or nearly three-fourths, are entering their third year or fewer in the league.
