At the 18:25 mark in the first half of Saturday’s game against Kentucky, Georgia fans found themselves holding their breath. Junior forward Yante Maten was part of a collision and fell to the ground and clutched his knee and then later limped off the court.

He would not return to the court but he did return to the sideline, prompting a round of cheers from the concerned fans. As it stands now, Maten is unlikely to play any of the remaining games in the regular season.

Maten has been the Bulldogs’ best player this season as well as one of the top players in the conference. His numbers only tell part of the reason why he will be missed.

This season, Maten has led Georgia in many different categories… In 19 of 27 games this season, Maten has led or tied for team lead in points. He has also led or tied for the team lead in steals six times, in assists once, 13 times in rebounds as well as 13 times for blocks.

Check out where Maten’s numbers rank among his teammates and in the SEC as well.

Maten has four career games scoring 30 or more points. Over the last 20 seasons, a Georgia player has reached the 30 plateau 26 times. Here are the ones that have reached it the most for the Dawgs in that time period.

In his first game as a Bulldog, Maten scored just two points (2014 vs. Georgia Tech). He has done a lot better since. Here are Maten’s highest scoring games as a Bulldog…

He is currently 27th on Georgia’s all-time points list with 1,226. He is currently in between Ray Harrison and Jerry Waller. In terms of career rebounds, his 595 is 16th and is between Ray Jeffords (former Falcons draft choice) and Dominque Wilkins. In field goal percentage of those that qualify he is in 12th at 49.5 between Shandon Anderson and James Banks. He is in 4th place in career blocks at Georgia and I decided to show you the top five…

Here’s another way to look at Maten. This is Mark Fox’s eighth season as Georgia’s head coach. This season he has the highest points per game total by a Georgia player under Mark Fox (it would be higher if you didn’t have to average this past game in which he played less than two minutes).

Maten does it all. Don’t forget earlier this school-season he kicked a 44-yard field goal in a punt, pass and kick competition. Watch the video here…
