The Georgia Bulldogs continue their post-regular season roll with four players named to the Rivals.com All-SEC Team. Tuesday, Rivals.com named four UGA players to their Freshman All-American team.
Redshirt freshman Knowshon Moreno, made both lists after rushing for 1,273 yards and 12 touchdowns, and sophomore Geno Atkins were named to the All-SEC first team, while linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and Mikey Henderson were named to the second.
"Herschel Walker is the only Bulldog to rush for more yards as a freshman than Moreno, who has gained 1,273 yards on 239 carries," Rivals.com noted. "Moreno also is the first Georgia player since Walker to rush for 100 yards in five consecutive games."
Ellerbe paced the Bulldogs in tackles with 85 while Atkins' 37 tackles, including 5.5 sacks and 10 quarterback hurries, and 13 tackles for a loss of yards, was best among Georgia defensive linemen.
"Ellerbe has started at each of the three linebacker positions for Georgia this season, but spent a majority of his time in the middle. He has a team-high 85 tackles, with 11 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks," writes Rivals.com. "Atkins has only started about half of Georgia's games, but he was key during the Bulldogs' late-season surge. He had 5.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss during a six-game winning streak, including a three-sack performance against Georgia Tech."
Henderson, averaged 11.3 yards per punt return, plays receiver for the Bulldogs, and it was the combination of his performance at both positions that earned him the second team punt return spot.
Said Rivals.com: "Henderson has averaged 11.3 yards per return to rank third in the SEC to first-team return men Brandon James of Florida and Javier Arenas of Alabama. Henderson also is a force on offense who caught a 25-yard touchdown pass in overtime to beat Alabama."
Earlier in the week, Rivals.com announced the 2007 Freshman All-American Teams which included Moreno, offensive tackle Trinton Sturdivant, and linebacker Rennie Curran to the first team, and guard Clint Boling to the second team.
Asked if they had any reservations about naming four players, which was more than any other school, to the list, Rivals.com national college football writer Olin Buchannan told UGASports LIVE: "Absolutely not.
"I think the future looks really good for the Georgia Bulldogs, and obviously the present is not bad. Look at the guys mentioned, who would you put ahead of them? Knowshon Moreno, what an amazing year he had when he became the key figure in that backfield, and he was so spectacular. I think that all those guys were easy choices, all of them deserve to be there, and I think there is a lot of look forward to down in Athens."
