There’s nothing like hearing the word “guarantee” that makes a reporter perk up his or her ear.

Such was the case with Georgia running back Sony Michel after practice on Tuesday, but the guarantee he made leading up to Saturday’s game in Jacksonville against No. 14 Florida (5-1, 3-1) is not what you might think.

“Last year was last year. It was tough, we lost. I don’t even know the score of last year’s game to be honest with you,” Michel said. “Were going to leave that in the past but I guarantee this year is going to be different.”

When pressed, Michel was quick to point out that he wasn’t necessarily talking about the final score.

He was talking about effort, something that hasn’t always been there for the Bulldogs (4-3, 2-3) throughout the course of the current campaign.

“Us as leaders, we’re going to demand a lot from our players throughout practice. It’s something we’ve been saying a lot, that we preach in our preparation,” Michel said. “We’re going to make sure we prepare harder, make sure we prepare well and go into this game ready to play. I can guarantee we’re going to leave it all on the field.”

That certainly wasn’t the case last year when Florida rolled past a listless Bulldog squad 27-3 en route to winning the SEC East crown.

“We’ve got to go get this victory,” Michel said. “Our mindset is going to get this victory.”
