Fifth-year senior Greyson Lambert has been named the Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback for the game against the North Carolina Tar Heels this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET in the Georgia Dome.

Lambert edged out true freshman Jacob Eason as the two went back and forth for the starting nod. It is widely believed Eason will still play in the game, a supposition that Kirby Smart said was possible.

Eason took snaps with the first string offense for two weeks of preseason camp to show the coaches what he could do. He even took the vast majority of the snaps in the practice the team held this past Saturday in the Georgia Dome, according to multiple sources. But during Monday's open practice sessions, Lambert was first in the quarterback rotations. That same rotation continued on Tuesday as well.

Lambert is 10-2 as a starter for the Bulldogs and only had two interceptions last year. Smart places a high value on ball security, which could be the rational for choosing Lambert over Eason.

There is no remaining media availability of players or coaches prior to Saturday's contest.
