Remember those rumors that D’Andre Swift was nursing some sort of injury?
Turns out they were true.
On Wednesday, Swift acknowledged to reporters that he’s been nursing a groin injury, one he confirmed limited his play the first three weeks of the year.
“It’s (the groin injury) been going on for a while, but I’m good now,” said Swift, who also cleared up the mystery as to why he only received four carries—two each on Georgia’s first two possessions—against Middle Tennessee State.
“It was a coach’s decision,” Swift said. “I was kind of banged up earlier, but it was a coach’s decision.”
The injury dates back to the spring.
“I felt fine at Missouri,” said Swift who carried the football a career-high 16 times for 71 yards in the Bulldogs’ 43-29 win at Missouri.
“I get treatment at 7 in the morning every day, and a few times each day before practice, just to get ready,” Swift said. “I’m good now.”
No doubt Kirby Smart hopes that’s the case.
Last year, Swift finished third in rushing behind Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, with 81 carries for 618 yards. Included were eight runs of 20-plus yards.
This year, Swift has rushed 40 times for 190 yards, an average of 4.8 yards with a long run of 17 yards against South Carolina.
“I’m still looking for that breakout game,” Swift said. “It will come. I’m not going to try and pressure myself. It’s going to come.”
When he scores: “I’m taking the ball to the referee,” said Swift, who has started all four of Georgia’s games.
“There are always things you can do better,” said Swift, who gets daily treatment on his groin to ensure he’s able to play.
