To the surprise of no one, Georgia remains No. 1 in the latest College Football Playoff College Football rankings.
The top three teams all remained the same. Ohio State is No. 2, followed by Michigan at No. 3, but Washington swapped places with Florida State, with the Huskies ranked No. 4 and the Seminoles No. 5. Oregon is No. 6, Texas No. 7, and Alabama No. 8.
Committee chairman Boo Corrigan acknowledged the Bulldogs' 38-10 road win at Tennessee made quite the impression.
"Yeah, we're sitting on six total undefeated teams, five in the top five. I think it's a pretty unique time for us. But as we talked about it in the room, Tennessee scores on their first offensive play, whatever it is, 105, 110,000 people going crazy, and to see Georgia score on six of their first eight possessions was incredibly impressive," Corrigan said. "It was incredibly impressive. But I think there are a lot of really good football teams in the country right now, and they're certainly one of them. But not only (is Georgia) one of them, they're the team that we believe is the best team in the country right now."
Otherwise, the big news from Tuesday was Washington jumping Florida State from No. 5 to No. 4.
In the Seminoles' win over North Alabama, Florida State lost quarterback Jordan Travis.
Corrigan was asked about the impact the injury had on the committee's decision.
"You know, in talking about it and looking at it and with regards to them going from 4 to 5, as we said earlier, it had a lot to do with Washington. It had everything to do with Washington as we were looking at it," Corrigan said. "Again, as we're looking at this, we're going to close the books here in a little bit on week 12 and then move on to week 13 and see how they play against Florida."
Another game that will obviously have huge implications in the rankings is Saturday's game between Michigan and Ohio State.
Corrigan said the committee will be watching that one extremely closely.
"Michigan has been dominant, and Ohio State has got the win over Notre Dame as well as Penn State," Corrigan said. "Like every college football fan, we're excited to watch the game and watch two really good teams play in the big house and see what happens from there."
