Behind the Scenes: Teshaun Hightower commitment

Earlier this week, Teshaun Hightower decided to end his recruitment and committed to play at Georgia next year. The three-star guard is currently doing a year of prep school at Mt. Zion in Baltimore but graduated from Collins Hill High School in Georgia last year. We caught up with Hightower to learn more about what went into his decision to become a Bulldog.

UGASports: When was the very first time you heard from Georgia as a recruit?

Teshaun Hightower: "I heard from them a little bit when I was in high school, but they thought I was going to junior college so they fell off a little bit. They started to come back around the time I got to Mt. Zion this year in August."

UGASports: When did it really start to heat up to where you thought Georgia was a real option for you?

TH: "After I took the visit there, like a week after, I sat down with my family to talk about it. It was a good fit for me all around."

UGASports: When was it that you knew for sure Georgia was the right place for you?

TH: "There wasn't really one moment or one thing that happened. I had a one-on-one conversation with Coach Fox, and he was just telling me it's not going to be easy and that I'm going to have to work for everything. That's what I like. I like to work for things, and I know I can go in there and play if I do what I have to do."

UGASports: What was Coach Fox's main message for you throughout the recruiting process?

TH: "He just talked about education first and building a relationship. He's a real cool coach and somebody I can play for."

UGASports: When did you tell the coaches for certain you were choosing Georgia?

TH: "I told them the night before, Sunday night. I told Coach Fox. He was really happy."

UGASports: What did Coach Fox say is the plan for you next year?

TH: "He didn't really say. He just said I need to work, and it's going to be a grind."

UGASports: Was there anybody on the team you hit it off with on your visit?

TH: "Everybody was cool on the team. Tyree Crump was the person I walked around with. He was just telling it's a good spot, and, if I come, we're going to win. He told me he's not playing much right now and told me why he's not playing much, but he said he's going to wait his turn. Someday it will be his turn."

UGASports: Which assistant coach spent the most time recruiting you?

TH: "Yasir Rosemond. He's a real cool coach. He's very upfront. He keeps it 100."
