Georgia assistant basketball coach Yasir Rosemond has accepted an offer to join Alabama head coach Avery Johnson, sources confirmed to UGASports.com Monday night on the condition of anonymity.

An Atlanta native, Rosemond spent the last three seasons with the Bulldogs after joining Mark Fox’s program in May of 2014.

Rosemond replaces Bob Simon who was fired at the end of this past season.

Georgia officials confirmed that Alabama reached out for permission from head coach Mark Fox to speak with Rosemond last week.

Crimson Tide officials later confirmed the hire.

Prior to coming to Georgia, Rosemond spent the previous two seasons at Samford after working two seasons as an assistant coach at Seattle University.

He also served for five seasons at Oregon under Ernie Kent.

As a player, Rosemond was a standout guard at Douglass High in Atlanta, the same alma mater as current Bulldog assistant Jonas Hayes.

At Alabama, Rosemond will join Johnson, the second-year coach for the Crimson Tide who led his team to a sixth-place finish in the SEC with a record of 19-15.
