When "the water oozed up over the sides of my shoes..."

As mentioned before, I had noticed a number of posters seemingly longing for the legendary voice of Larry Munson—I do too. I recently was fortunate enough to have gained access to many Munson radio-called games spanning a couple of decades or so. Therefore, becoming a weekly staple during this football season, I am posting highlights I compiled from a Munson broadcast of a Georgia game from yesteryear. Adding only photos taken from the particular game, and some commentary, each video will be associated with the Bulldogs' upcoming opponent, or the date for which it is posted (or, in this case, coming off a bye week).

This week after the Vanderbilt loss, I don’t think I ever had heard as much, “well, we now definitely need to beat Tech” with still more than a month remaining until Georgia actually faces the Yellow Jackets. I was reminded of the “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” meeting from 37 years ago when, coming off a bye with a 5-5 record, there was a lot of “well, we now definitely need to beat Tech” in order for the Bulldogs to avoid their second losing season in just the previous three years. Georgia had suffered a rash of injuries, including to sophomore starting quarterback Buck Belue, prompting demoted senior (and often booed) Jeff Pyburn to be thrust back into the starting role. Featuring Pyburn, a trio of tailbacks led by a “little, tiny guy,” and cold, miserable rainy weather whereby when Munson “walked out on that thing (Tech’s artificial field)…the water oozed up over the sides of my shoes,” the Dogs were as much as a 3½ to 6-point underdog, and seemingly beating Tech was going to be much easier said than done:
