UGA-UT: Game Notes

Stafford Has Career Day: Junior QB Matthew Stafford was 25-for-36 for a career-high 310 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs against the Vols. It was his first career 300+ yard game and the 25 completions was also a career high. He was 17-for-25 for 211 yards with one TD at halftime. In the first half, Georgia was also 5-for-8 on third downs and 1-for-1 on fourth down. One of Stafford's targets was sophomore FB Shaun Chapas, who started the second game of his career. Chapas finished with a career-high three catches for 64 yards. Freshman A.J. Green was the leading receiver with 7 for 53 yards while senior Mohamed Massaquoi had 103 yards on five catches.

Walsh Connects: Freshman Blair Walsh scored 14 points, connecting on four field goals (34 , 20, 41 and 28 yards) and two PATs. Walsh is now 10-for-12 in field goals (2 misses are from 52 and 54 yards).

Defense Squashed The Ground Attack: Georgia's defense held Tennessee to just 1 yard rushing on 15 carriers. It was the lowest tally by an SEC opponent in the Mark Richt era and second lowest overall under Richt as the Bulldogs held #10 Hawaii to minus 5 yards in Georgia's 41-10 win in the 2008 Sugar Bowl. Also, it was the fourth time this season that Georgia held an opponent under 60 yards rushing in a game. Reshad Jones and Darryl Gamble tied for the team-high in tackles today with five each. The Bulldogs finished with two sacks as senior DT Corvey Irvin and junior WC Prince Miller each had one. Following Miller's first career sack, he returned a punt for 27 yards.

Red Zone: The Bulldogs are now 21-for-24 in the Red Zone this season. They finished 5-for-7 versus the Vols. Georgia was 19-for-20 before junior quarterback Matthew Stafford threw an interception with 5:31 left in the second quarter from the Tennessee 13 yard line. In the first half, Georgia was 4-for-5 (2 FG, 2 TD). Georgia's second turnover in the Red Zone was Stafford's second pick of the game midway through the third quarter. The Vols scored all 14 of their points off the two Georgia miscues.

Covering Some Ground: The Bulldogs had their third TD drive of 90 or more yards. Georgia drove 97 yards in the final minute of the 2nd quarter. The drive was highlighted by senior SE Mohamed Massaquoi's 9-yard touchdown catch. They clinched the game in the fourth quarter with a 17-play, 76-yard drive that ended with a field goal, holding the ball for 10:55. Georgia ran 81 plays to UT's 45 and had the ball for 42:04.

Moreno Hits 100: Sophomore TB Knowshon Moreno had his ninth career 100-yard rushing game after going for 101 yards on 27 carries. He had one catch for 14 yards. The Bulldogs had 45 rushing attempts for 148 yards.

Cutting The Penalties - In The First Half: Georgia had only two penalties for 10 yards in the first half, but finished with 11 for 76 yards (3 were delay of game to run clock). The Bulldogs came into the game as the most penalized team in the nation (119th - 87.4 yards per game). Georgia has had at least 10 penalties in five of its six games this year.

Starters: Redshirt freshman TE Aron White started the first game of his career.

Senior Brannan Southerland got his first action of the season at FB after sitting out the first four games with a foot injury. He scored a TD on his first carry, a one-yard plunge. Southerland played "personal protector" on the punt team against Alabama.

Massaquoi: Senior SE Mohamed Massaquoi had five catches for 103 yards to give him 27 straight games with at least one catch. It was his second career game over 100+ yards and his first since a career high was 108 yards against Auburn in 2005.

Injury Report: Junior LT Vince Vance left the game in the second quarter with a right knee injury and did not return. Three regular starters - senior MLB Dannell Ellerbe (knee), senior TE Tripp Chandler (shoulder), junior split end Kris Durham (ankle) - did not play against the Vols. Junior DE Roderick Battle returned to action after a neck injury kept him out of the last three games.

Up Next: The No. 10 Bulldogs (5-1, 2-1 SEC) host No. 13 Vanderbilt (5-1, 3-1 SEC) on Saturday, Oct. 18 for Homecoming. Georgia leads the overall series 48-18-2. The Bulldogs' Brandon Coutu connected on a 37-yard field goal as time expired in 2007 to give Georgia a 20-17 win.
