UGA commit talks about camp

Keysville (Ga.) Burke County linebacker Marcus Washington became the University of Georgia’s first verbal commitment in May and has remained solid throughout. This weekend he attended camp at Georgia and talks about his weekend with UGASports.com.

“I went to the camp and I had a really good time,” Washington said. “Overall, I thought it went pretty well. I thought that I performed well at the camp and I learned a lot of stuff that I think is going to help me this season.”

The 6-foot-1 1/2, 210-pound Washington runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, has a 275-pound bench press, a 400-pound squat and a 21-inch vertical jump.

“I got to work with (defensive coordinator and linebackers) coach (Dave) Van Gorder the whole time I was there,” Washington said. “That was really good for me because I learned a lot and I got to see what it would be like to be coached by him. He is pretty intense when he coaches, but he knows his stuff.”

At linebacker he had 119 tackles, four for a loss of yards, one sack, four quarterback hurries, broke up two passes, caused a fumble, and blocked two PATs. At tailback for the final two games of the season, he rushed for 371 yards on 55 carries and scored a touchdown. He also caught one pass for a two-point conversion and punted twice with an average of 28 yards.

“There were a lot of really good players there that I was trying to talk to about Georgia,” Washington said. “Nick Kyles was one of the guys I was talking to and he is having trouble deciding between Georgia and Florida, but he likes both of them a lot.

Another guy I was trying to talk to was Marcus Ball. He is one of the best players that I have ever seen. He was doing things out there that nobody else could do. The fact that he is just a junior just adds to the fact that he is so good. At first he said he had no interest in Georgia when the camp started and that he was just there to learn more for this season, but by the end of the camp I think that he had warmed up a little bit more to Georgia.”
