Two Vicks In Georgia

Things look pretty good at the quarterback position for the Georgia Bulldogs for the next few seasons. With two redshirt freshmen nipping at the heels of returning starter Cory Phillips, the impending arrival of highly touted freshman D.J. Shockley in August, and the commitment of Athens Academy’s Joe Tereshinski III in April, it would appear that there is plenty of talent in the pipeline.
Shockley and Tereshinski showed a lot of guts in choosing the Bulldogs given the youth and talent of redshirts David Greene and Matt Redding.

Now, news comes from an unlikely place that UGA might have a new name to add to the recruiting mix for 2002. Atlanta Falcons rookie Michael Vick said recently that he would like to see his younger brother Marcus play college ball in the Peach State.
“Hopefully he will come to one of those colleges down here in Georgia,” said the former Virginia Tech Hoakie and first pick of the recent NFL Draft. However, he stopped short of any potential promotion of the peach state schools by adding, “if he decides not to go to Virgina Tech.”
Marcus Vick, a rising senior at Warwick High in Newport News, VA, is rated by one recruiting service as the top football prospect in the state for 2002. He passed for more yards as a junior than he older brother did as a senior at Warwick.
Head coach Will Reamon was asked if he thought that Marcus could have the same success that Michael did at the next level.
"I told Beamer, I told Groh, I've told Bowden, I've told Mark Richt, I've told all of the head coaches who have called me about Marcus Vick,” he said. “my first concern about Marcus Vick is how he handles the Michael Vick situation, hoping that he doesn't lose the eye of the tiger."
Speculation that Marcus and Michael’s mother will follow Michael to his professional career has been in the media since February. At that time, however, the San Diego Chargers held the first pick of the 2001 NFL Draft. It was only at the last second that Atlanta traded with San Diego to get the first pick and Michael Vick.
Stay tuned.
Briefly…
The Bulldogs’ first commitment for 2002 Joe Tereshinski III (6-3, 205-lbs., 4.6) will graduate from Athens Academy next December and enroll at UGA in January 2002. He is rated as one of the top ten quarterback prospects in the country by Jeremy Crabtree of Rivals100 (click for more). As a junior he threw for 2,100 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also rushed for 13 touchdowns.
