Tutt: 'I'd love to play for Tucker'

It is not easy to impress a recruit as well traveled as Christian Tutt, but the Bulldogs' new defensive coordinator did just that during G-Day.

“Mel Tucker and the way he coaches his DBs up," Tutt said of what caught his eye during the spring scrimmage. "From this year to last, it’s been a lot that’s changed. It’s stuff I like. I’d love to play for Coach Tucker.”

For the Thomson defender, it's a palpable shift.

“It’s different because he brings a different atmosphere," Tutt said. "(Tucker)’s on the DBs now. I’m not saying Pruitt wasn’t on his DBs, but (Tucker) is more on his DBs right now. He’s teaching them technique and fundamentals. That’s what you need in the game, and he’s doing a good job of that.”

Tucker and Tutt were able spend some quality time together, as well.

“We talked one-on-one in the office and today to see what he’s going to do with the program and in the spring game,” Tutt said.

Aside from coaching, the crowd did their part in impressing the four-star defensive back.

“I didn’t expect that," Tutt said of the full house. "I came out there, and I was amazed at how many people were there. I think it was more than 93K. It was closer to 94 or 95, but it was a good experience out there today.”

The experience felt less like a scrimmage as a result.

“It kind of felt like a real game and real game experience," Tutt said. "It was the first time I’ve been to a spring game where the whole thing was packed out. There were people sitting on the stairs. It was good.”

Georgia must continue to take advantage of their opportunities with Tutt, as he's already given thought to the idea of committing early before deciding to hold off.

“I have thought about pulling the trigger, but I’m going to wait it out," Tutt said. "I’ve got a top three right now. Right now, it’s Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama. Really, it’s a top four with UCLA.”

Tutt admits he's not sure what it will take for one to win out.

“Right now, I don’t even know," Tutt said. "I don’t know what would put one over. I’m trying to commit after my junior season.”

Proximity to home is not going to hurt the Bulldogs when that times comes though.

“It does affect it a little bit," Tutt said. "Home is everything to me, and family is everything. Playing at home or close to home, forty-five minutes away, would mean a lot. I could still go to Alabama or Ohio State, though. I don’t have a problem going there.”

As for when the Bulldogs can expect to see him again, Tutt says it will be well before the summer months.

“Oh yeah. Definitely," Tutt said. "I’ll probably be up here next week.”
