THE STORYLINE

LSU scored a major early commitment for the 2022 class when Khamauri Rogers picked the Tigers in November 2019, but with recruiting picking up and some turnover in Baton Rouge, Rogers recently reopened his recruitment.

The Lexington (Miss.) Holmes County standout has heard from numerous top programs from around the country starting early in his junior season when he was still pledged to LSU and that should only increase now that he’s back on the market.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State will undoubtedly make Rogers a major priority in the 2022 recruiting class since he’s the state’s top prospect at this point.

But don’t count out a re-commitment to LSU, either. He liked a lot about the Tigers to commit so early, he has a great relationship with position coach Corey Raymond, who looks safe while LSU restructures its defensive coaching staff and the Tigers are not going to give up recruiting him throughout this next cycle.

LOCAL REACTION

“Rogers' decommitment came as a bit of a surprise, but with the program's history of recruiting top-flight cornerback talent, Raymond still on staff and it being a full year before the 2022 early signing period, it likely won't worry LSU or its fans. The Tigers have plenty of options shaping up in the 2022 class and will likely still remain a contender for Rogers down the stretch.” - Jimmy Smith, TigerDetails.com

NATIONAL REACTION

“Rogers is a talented kid and a loss from Mississippi, which is a state the Tigers need to recruit, but with the success of Derek Stingley and Elias Ricks, finding an elite defensive back to replace him won’t be an issue.” — Mike Farrell, National Recruiting Director
