September by the Numbers

Now that we are done with a "September to Remember" for its various ups and downs, here is a look at where the Georgia Bulldogs stack up in a few statistical categories. Though surviving a touch four games with just one loss, many Dawg fans are looking at game five, LSU this weekend in Athens, as the major indicator for the 2009 season.

First up, the good…

Georgia leads the SEC in overall record since 1999 with a record of 101-31.

Georgia leads the SEC since 2000 in winning percentage in both home and away games. Currently, the Bulldogs are 51-8 (.864) in Sanford Stadium in that span and 35-14 (.714) on the road.

The Bulldogs are currently tied with Florida for the lead in the Eastern Division with a record of 2-0.

Georgia has scored on all 12 trips into opponent redzones (see below).

Receiver A.J. Green leads the SEC in receptions in week four with eight catches for 153 yards and one touchdown. Furthermore, he leads the conference overall averaging over six catches per game and receiving yards per game. In all, Green has 25 receptions for 428 yards and four touchdowns.

Punter Drew Butler is averaging 50 yards on 16 punts and leads both the nation and the SEC.

Kicker Blair Walsh has connected on all eight field goal and 13 PAT attempts.

Linebacker Rennie Curran leads the SEC in tackles per game (10) and has 40 on the season.

Now the not so good:

The Dawgs are 11th in the SEC in redzone offense when it comes to scoring touchdowns. In 12 trips inside their opponents' 20 yard line, Georgia has crossed to goal line just five times (41%).

In redzone defense, the Bulldogs are 7th by allowing touchdowns on seven of 16 opportunities (43%).

Georgia's average score is 30.8, which is just one point above the 29.8 opponents are averaging. Likewise, the Dawgs average 3.5 yards per carry on offense and what they allow on defense. The Bulldogs have passed for just eight more total yards than they have given up (980 to 972).

The Bulldogs have made five fewer first downs than they have allowed (69 to 74).

Georgia's punt coverage is giving up 12.5 (7-88) yards on average while their return team is averaging just 5.2 yards (8-42).

The Bulldogs have picked off two passes to their opponents' five.

Georgia has converted just one of four 4th down attempts. Their opponents have had success in five of seven attempts.

The Dawgs are 90th nationally and 11th in the SEC in rushing offense averaging just 112 yards per game on the ground. In total offense, UGA is 74th and 9th in the league.

Georgia is 11th in total defense, pass efficiency defense, and scoring defense in the conference and is 67th in the first two nationally and 95th in the later.

Georgia is 10th in the conference in both tackles for a loss (71st nationally) and sacks (89th nationally).

The Dawgs are last in the league in turnover margin and 115 nationally.
