Kentucky won’t be coming to Stegeman Coliseum but Georgia basketball fans will have more Saturday home games than before, according to the new SEC schedule announced Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs will travel to Lexington on New Year's eve to take on the Wildcats, but will host the likes of Alabama (Jan. 6), South Carolina (Jan. 13), Auburn (Feb. 10), Tennessee (Feb. 17) and LSU (Feb. 24).
“I think this schedule is great for our fans because we have a significant number of Saturday home games,” head coach Mark Fox said in a statement. “Certainly having Saturday games is more fan-friendly. Hopefully, it will help give our football program some good recruiting weekends, too.”
The Bulldogs’ remaining home dates include Ole Miss on Wednesday (Jan. 3); Arkansas (Jan. 23), Florida (Jan. 30) and Texas A&M (Feb. 28).
“You know there are going to be 18 very solid teams on our league schedule,” Fox said. “No matter what order they’re placed in there’s going to be a lot of great, competitive games.”
Along with Kentucky, Georgia will travel to Auburn, Florida, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
Times and television assignments for all 14 SEC teams will be announced at a later date.
Georgia is coming off a 19-15 season, and bring back nine of their top-10 scorers, including two-time All-SEC forward Yante Maten, who enters the season as the league’s active leader in career points, rebounds and blocked shots.
