Rising tight end star recaps trip to Athens

It's early in the recruitment of 2019 tight end Thomas Gordon, but that hasn't quelled interest from major programs.

Two schools, Duke and Tulane, have already offered, and others around the southeast have been playing host recently, including Georgia.

"We got there early in the morning and got the whole tour of campus," Gordon said of his trip to Athens. "It's big and pretty cool. Then, we got the tour of the football facilities, which I think are some of the best in the country. After that, I sat down with Coach [Shane] Beamer and watched film. He let me sit in on the tight ends meeting, too."

The 6-foot-5, 225 pound product of Strake Jesuit in Houston, Texas, notes that spending time with the Bulldogs in the meeting room was the highlight of the trip.

"It was pretty cool," Gordon said. "All the guys were very nice and introduced themselves. They were pretty big, so I know they've got some big time players in there."

Beamer was thorough in both his pitch and interaction with the rising junior.

"He seems like a players coach, to be honest, and all the players seemed to like him," Gordon said. "It was good to spend time with him and let him show me what the tight ends do at Georgia. That was really cool to see."

While the Bulldogs did not offer on the trip, they are keeping tabs on the rising star.

"We didn't really talk about an offer that much," Gordon said. "I let them know when I pick up offers, so I'm pretty sure they know what's up. Coach Beamer said he wants to see me up close, and he'll be down in Houston in the spring to do so."

As mentioned, the Bulldogs are far from the only ones watching Gordon's development closely.

"I have been to three visits so far, and I'm hearing from Duke, Texas A&M, Houston, Oklahoma State, and Baylor," he said.

Still, it appears Georgia did impress enough to merit a second look.

"I'll most likely come up for a game in the fall or summer camp, if possible," Gordon said.
