Player Countdown to Kickoff - No. 78

Spring Review: Davis may have been the happiest Bulldog during all of spring drills. The reason? He was healthy for a change. In 2009, Davis was unable to practice in the spring after coming off two shoulder surgeries. Now 100 percent, Davis enjoyed a solid month of spring drills which only served to solidify his role as Georgia's starting right tackle.

Fall Preview: Based on where he was when he first arrived as a freshman compared to where he is now as a senior, Davis may be the most improved of all Georgia's offensive linemen. It's safe to say that few people would have predicted the success the Mississippi native has now achieved. As long as he can keep healthy, right tackle will be in excellent hands for the Bulldogs this fall.

Josh Davis is a big number 78 on the roster. Currently he stands 6'6" and weighs

north of the 300 pound mark and he looks even bigger. Josh hails from Mississippi and has been an on-again-off-again starter on the offensive line for the Dawgs. For the running game or the passing game to succeed, Georgia needs players like Josh Davis to succeed.

A player that did succeed as a Bulldog and in the NFL has been number 78 Jon Stinchcomb. Like his brother Matt (yesterday's article), both were All-Americans at tackle and Academic All-Americans, too. Jon graduated with a 3.75 grade point average in Microbiology. He also was part of the 2002 SEC Championship team and the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints team this past February. Jon also has done a tremendous job with charity work he in America and overseas.

Number 78, Ronnie Swoopes was a star of his own back in the 1970's. Swoopes was part of the SEC Championship team in 1976 and then was named All-SEC in 1977. In 1977, he recorded 92 primary tackles, which is still 3rd on the all-time Georgia list

One of Ronnie's teammates was running back Glynn Harrison. "Glidin" Glynn averaged 6.37 yards per rush attempt back in the mid 70's, but he had his longest run against Georgia Tech. In that game he scored on a

78-yard touchdown run as the Dawgs defeated the Yellow Jackets 42-26 in Atlanta in front of a national TV audience (which was big in the 70's).

Another running back for Georgia that made big plays was Robert Edwards. The converted cornerback scored thirteen touchdowns in 1997 to total

78 points to lead the Bulldogs that season. Twelve of the thirteen scores were on the ground while the other was a pass reception against Mississippi State.

A current Bulldog has a 78-yarder of his own. In the 2008 game against Central Michigan, defensive end

Demarcus Dobbs picked off a deflected pass from Dan LeFevour and rumbled and bumbled 78 yards for the touchdown right before halftime as the Bulldogs cruised to a 56-17 win.
