Player Countdown to Kickoff - No. 70

 

Spring Review: Harmon was making excellent progress at left tackle before being knocked out with a sprained ankle. Fortunately, Harmon's recovery has gone well and coaches remain confident that he will be able to pick up where he left off once preseason drills begin.

Fall Preview: Harmon figures to get plenty of looks at left tackle, just in case Trinton Sturdivant takes longer than anticipated recovering from his torn ACL. One way or the other look for Harmon to be a part of the rotation in a backup capacity, although the potential is certainly there for significant playing time down the road.

Ray Rissmiller wore 70 is the early 1960's for coaches Johnny Griffith

and Vince Dooley. Rissmiller was listed at 245 pounds as a sophomore starter, but trimmed down to 225 by the time he was a senior (maybe they had a tough strength and conditioning program back then). He was an All-American in 1964 and 1965 was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was also a professional singer as he released "Big Ray" and "Hide and Watch Me Now" on GRC records. He son

Scott also played for the Dawgs in the late 80's and early 90's (he also wore 70, but no word if he could sing).

Another 70 for the Dawgs was Kevin Breedlove. He certainly played for Georgia from 1999 to 2002. He started 47 games for the Bulldogs in that time. The 47 is the most by any offensive lineman in Georgia history. He was named All-SEC in both 2000 and in 2002.

Years later Nick Jones wore 70 and he started his fair share as well. Nick started 32 games for Georgia at both guard and at center. During his freshman season, Nick did something most offensive lineman don't normally do. In the 2003 game against Georgia Tech, Nick noticed the ball loose in the opponent's endzone

and  the Bowdon native grabbed the ball, scoring a touchdown. He is now a graduate assistant

coach for Georgia as we enter the 2010 season.

In 1994, Georgia played N.E. Louisiana and it wasn't even close. The Bulldogs defeated the Indians that day 70 to 6. It was the last time that the Dawgs scored 70 points in a game as ten touchdowns were scored in many different ways.

Greg Bright and Carlos Yancy scored on interception returns to begin the scoring. Freshman running back

Hines Ward had his first career 100-yard rushing game and scored a touchdown. Larry Bowie scored three times (once threw the air and twice on the ground). Also,

Brice Hunter scored twice, Marisa Simpson scored once as did Hason Graham.
