Player Countdown to Kickoff - No. 66

 

Spring Review: Houston was one of Georgia's two early enrollees (Jakar Hamilton was the other) and the Buford native gained invaluable experience in getting accustomed to the system and what it's like to compete on the collegiate level. Houston was worked at several position on the line, but eventually setteled into right tackle where he currently sits as the backup to to starter Josh Davis.

Fall Preview: Houston had a wonderful spring, but a redshirt still seems a good possibility, that is as long as the Bulldogs' offensive line can avoid any major injuries.

 

Kolton Houston is number 66 right now and he already became the first freshman

from this past recruiting class to join the Bulldogs. Houston is just the latest

of the star lineman to come from Buford High School.

John Kasay wore 66 for the Dawgs and not the John Kasay who is 7th all-time in field goals made in the NFL. This is his father, John who was the starting guard for the 1966 SEC Championship Bulldogs. He is mostly known for being an assistant coach for Georgia, a position he held from 1969 to 1995.

In the early 70's, number 66 Royce Smith was one of the stars on Georgia's offensive line. He

was a standout at guard and was named All-American in 1971. He also won the

Jacobs Trophy for being the best blocker in the SEC. He was the eighth overall pick in the 1972 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He played five seasons in the NFL overall including three with the Atlanta Falcons.

In the late mid-to-late 70's, number 66 George Collins carried on the

Smith tradition in talent and jersey number. Collins started two seasons for the Dawgs and was named All-American after the 1977 season. He was drafted in the

fourth round of the 1978 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He played five seasons in the NFL before joining the Jacksonville Bulls of the USFL.

John Lastinger was the signal caller for Georgia after Buck Belue. He is mostly known for his big 17-yard touchdown run against Texas in the closing minutes of the 1984 Cotton Bowl. In that same game he netted

66 passing yards, but it was his run that makes all people in Texas set their clock a certain way.
