Even to the most diehard recruitniks, Solon Page III's name may not strike a familiar chord. That could be about to change.
Highlighted by an impressive showing at the recent Rivals Underclassman Challenge in Jacksonville, the rising sophomore at Kell High has taken his show on the road and some big-time programs are starting to take notice.
Already, the 2017 outside linebacker has a verbal offer from Tennessee and last weekend in Athens apparently turned in an impressive showing at Dawg Night in front of Bulldog coaches and staff.
No, Page III did not receive a second offer, but for a youngster just starting to open some eyes, it was a trip well worthwhile.
"I felt like I did pretty well. They had me down with the linemen doing pass-rush drills and I was doing the perimeter drills with the linebackers and all that," Page III said. "Georgia had a great atmosphere and everything."
Although the Bulldogs didn't offer the 6-foot-2, 187-pounder, the Bulldogs are apparently going to keep in touch. Page III said offensive line coach Will Friend - his recruiter - has invited him to come to a Bulldog game later this fall.
Getting the opportunity to test his burgeoning skills at camps like the Rivals Camp Series at Marist High and the Underclassman Challenge in Jacksonville have also served him well. He said lessons were definitely learned.
"It was real good. It was a real good experience. I saw a lot of coaches and a lot of old faces that I had seen at other camps, that I've come to get to know," Page III said. "The coaches were all real good and the competition was even better. I got a pick, so it was all good."
More offers are almost certain to come his way.
Tennessee's offer came following a successful camp in Knoxville, and along with Georgia, Virginia, Oklahoma and Arizona State are paying close attention. In fact, the Sooners sent him his first recruiting letter.
With practice at Kell and other high schools in Georgia now underway, future camps will have to wait until next year. But with a full season of football ahead and his name now on the minds of college recruiters, more attention is heading his way.
Page III admits such so much attention so soon has been a bit surprising.
"I wasn't really expecting to get all this attention this early until my junior or senior year," he said. "But with all this coming now, it shows me that I can really do this and I'm able to hang with the other football big boys."
