NFL Dawgs - 2017 Week Six

The former Georgia gridiron greats had a mixed bag of success in the NFL this weekend. Here is a deeper look on how they fared on offense, defense and on special teams...

• Todd Gurley was back again to his usual self in the Rams' win over the Jaguars. The third-year back had 23 rush attempts for 116 yards. It was third 100-yard performance in the last four games. He also had a reception for four yards in the game. Gurley's 116 yards gives him 521 on the season and 2,512 in his career. When compared to other backs in the time since Gurley has been a pro, 2512 is tops.

• Matthew Stafford struggled in the loss against the Saints. He completed less than 50 percent of his passes for the first time since week 17 of the 2014 season and he threw three interceptions for the first time since week five of the 2015 season. Overall he was 25-for-52 passing for 312 yards and three touchdown passes. Stafford did not practice Tuesday due to an ankle injury. He and his team have an off week so it probably no need to worry. The following week he plays the Steelers.

Speaking of off weeks, A.J. Green and the Bengals had one this week, but I noticed Green now has 513 career receptions which makes him in second place in career catches by a former Georgia player. You might be surprised on who he passed.

Ben Watson was also on that list. This week he had six receptions for 28 yards as his Ravens lost to the Bears in overtime.

• Tavarres King had his first reception of the season (7 yards) in the Giants first win of the season.

While King had his first reception of the season, Isaiah McKenzie of the Broncos had his first career reception. It went for zero yards. He also had three punt returns for 17 yards . He injured his ankle and was replaced by another part-time Dawg, Brendan Langley.

• David Andrews (Patriots) and Ben Jones (Titans) started on the offensive line for their respective teams.

• Tyler Catalina (Redskins) was active, but did not play for his team this week.

On defense, Rashad Jones made Atlanta fans a little upset this week. Jones had seven tackles and had a big interception off a deflection with under a minute left in the game as the Dolphins defeated the Falcons. Jones has had an excellent career and if you check out his career tackles and interceptions it seems like his best work comes at the end.

• Thomas Davis is known more for tackles, but ended up with a sack as well. It was his second on the season and he has now 27 ½ for his career.
