Spalding High defensive tackle and Georgia signee Chris Mayes will attend Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College this fall, defensive line coach Dorsett Davis confirmed Wednesday morning.
"We're excited to get him in here," Davis said. "Obviously, we have some need at this position right now, although Chris has the ability to play a lot of positions. We're excited about him being here."
Davis said Mayes will enroll in July.
Ironically, Mayes will help replace former MGCCC standout Johnathan Jenkins, who will play for the Bulldogs this fall. Davis also coached former Alabama standout and Baltimore Raven player Terrence Cody.
"Chris definitely has the tools of some of those people that have been a factor on the next level," Davis said. "As long as he steps up to his responsibilities and plays hard, he's going to be all right."
Mayes could not immediately be reached for comment.
