King is a Dawg

Running back Caleb King has selected the University of Georgia as his college destination. The announcement came this morning at a press conference at his high school Greater Atlanta Christian.
"This is a very big deal," said Rivals.com Southeastern Recruiting Analyst J.C. Shurburtt. "I think that if you watch the Georgia offense this year, one thing that they have lacked is a bunch of playmakers all over the field. The have not really had a lot of guys step up in games and make big plays. I certainly think that Caleb King is one of those guys. . . . Maybe 10 or 15 from tailback, maybe a few times out in the slot, and help in the return game--he is just that type of player. He is a guy that you want to get the ball in his hand, and, given those factors, it is a very big pickup for the Dawgs."

Rated the No. 2 player in the State of Georgia by UGASports.com, King has been the Bulldogs' top running back prospect through the recruiting process, and is the team's 19th verbal commitment for the Class of 207.
King chose the Dawgs over scholarship offers from several schools, with Auburn, Florida, LSU, and Virginia Tech rounding out his top five.
"I really thought that he was Auburn bound up until about two or three weeks ago, and then you could really sense the tide starting to shift towards Georgia," continued Shurburtt. "That is really a credit to this staff. If you look at Georgia's staff, and you look at this year and last year, they are really doing a good job of coming from behind on kids. Especially in-state, where they look like they are falling behind and out of the game. Look at Reshad Jones last year, and then with Caleb King this year. It is really a credit to this staff that they can get these kids to stay at home and play for the University of Georgia."
This commitment could help the Dawgs reel in their last few commitments.
"Recruiting a lot of times is all about momentum," said Shurburtt. "You see a kid like Caleb King go ahead and commit to a Georgia, other recruits take notice. They are like, 'Hey, this high profile guy is going to UGA, so maybe I should give them a second look. It can give a positive vibe to their recruiting in general. It is really big, the big win over Auburn, and now the Caleb King commit; that really establishes a positive momentum for the whole UGA program heading into the home stretch of recruiting, the bowl season, and then into the off-season. I think it is a big positive all around.
UGASports.com recruiting editor Chad Simmons was on hand for the press conference and will provide video of the event later today or early Saturday. He will also file a more detailed story on the commitment.
