Key player out for opener

Starting cornerback Malcolm Mitchell will not play in Saturday's opener against Buffalo due to a sprained ankle, Georgia sports information Claude Felton revealed Friday in an e-mail to the media.
"I can confirm that he sustained a left ankle sprain in yesterday's practice and will not play in tomorrow's game vs. Buffalo," Felton said in a statement. "There are no projections at this point on his availability for next week's game."

Mitchell's injury and absence compromises what was already a thin position for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Damian Swann - who was listed behind Mitchell on the depth chart - figures to get the call in Saturday's opener against the Bulls (12:21, SEC-Network) opposite senior Branden Smith.
The injury also likely assures that both redshirt freshman Devin Bowman and true freshman Sheldon Dawson will each see increased action, and that freshman Josh Harvey-Clemons could receive added looks at nickel.
