How long will Georgia be without quarterback Jacob Eason?

Head coach Kirby Smart wishes he knew. The Bulldogs lost Eason with just over six minutes left in the first quarter of Saturday's 31-10 over Appalachian State when the sophomore sprained his left knee following a late hit out of bounds.

"He's got a sprained knee, right now we don't know the extent," Smart said. "We will know a lot more about it tomorrow."

The Washington native is expected to undergo an MRI on Sunday.

"I hate it for Jacob," Smart continued. "He had a really good camp, he worked really hard but we don't know how long it will be."

Smart, who spoke to Eason on the field before heading to the locker room, would not say where the quarterback went after that.

"I want him to be with his family and not talk about where he went or where he is at right now," said Smart, who added it's way too early to tell if Eason will be available for this Saturday's game at Notre Dame.

"I'm not thinking who is going to Notre Dame, or if he's going to Notre Dame," Smart said. " That will be y'alls talk all week. The only thing I'm worried about is our team and where they are mentally, and Jacob and his family. That's the only thing I'm worried about."

Eason had completed just 1-of-3 passing attempts for three yards before coming out of the game.

Freshman Jake Fromm did a very good job as his replacement, completing 10-of-15 attempts for 143 yards and a touchdowns, before Brice Ramsey took over in the fourth quarter, throwing interceptions in his only two attempts.
