Dawgs set for Tech

Another day, another game where Georgia basketball coach Mark Fox hopes his Bulldogs can start ironing out some of the wrinkles that's plagued their season for much of the non-conference portion of the 2011-2012 campaign.

Arch-rival Georgia Tech will provide Wednesday's competition. Tip-off is set for 7:06 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum (Fox Sports South).

"I think we understand that there are a lot of things we can work on to become a better offensive team as a well as more consistent defensive team," Fox said Tuesday. "So there are a lot of things we can address while we get ready for a good Tech team."

Both Georgia and Georgia Tech come with identical 4-4 marks, with Brian Gregory making his debut in the rivalry, which will be played for the 188th time.

Freshman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope continues to lead Georgia in scoring, as he has all season, at 13.9 points per game. Gerald Robinson, coming off the bench in the past two games, is the Bulldogs' only other double-figure scorer at 11.6. At his current rate, Caldwell-Pope would become the first freshman to lead Georgia in scoring since Jumaine Jones in 1998.

"Anytime you have a rivalry game it's always important to get that win," Bulldog sophomore Marcus Thornton said. "It's a big game. You always want to beat them to stay one up on them."

Fox said being home for the past few days since the team's recent four-game road trip has been a blessing in a number of ways.

"What's been better is we've been to have a couple of practices in our gym where we can really dig into some of things that we need to do," Fox said. "But it's also great that we'll get to be n front of our great fans. I'm looking forward to a good atmosphere."

NOTES: Last year Dustin Ware led the SEC in 3-point shooting, averaging 43.5 percent from beyond the arc last season. His senior year, however, is off to a slow start; he's made just 31 percent of his 39 tries. … Junior Vincent Williams has thrust himself prominently into a crowded backcourt rotation, even starting three of the past four games. He's already established new career highs in scoring, rebounds and minutes. … Sophomore forward Donte Williams has become Georgia's top frontline offensive threat, with double-figure scoring twice already, including a career-high 17 points against South Dakota State. He also leads Georgia in blocked shots with 14.
