Dawgs in SEC Tourney - By the Numbers

The SEC Tournament begins on Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee, but the Bulldogs will have to wait until Thursday at 1:00 p.m. ET to take on the Volunteers. The Dawgs will continue playing each day as long as they keep winning. Let's look at how Georgia and its players fared in the conference tournament.

Georgia has an all-time record of 44-54 in the SEC Tournament. That is actually the fifth most wins in the conference. Here is the top six in terms of wins and their records…

The Dawgs have reached the Semifinals 15 times, the Finals six times and have won it all twice. They won the SEC Tournament back in 1983 in Birmingham (en route to their Final Four appearance). They also won it in 2008 in Atlanta in the crazy tournament involving tornadoes and two-a-days and playing at Georgia Tech.

Last season, Georgia defeated Mississippi State 79-69 and South Carolina 65-64 before losing to the eventual SEC Champions Kentucky 93-80. Georgia has actually reached the semifinals in each of the last three years. Here is how Georgia has fared when the tournament has been played in Nashville.

The Bulldogs are 3-5 all-time against the Volunteers in SEC Tournament play. The last time they played each other in the SEC Tournament was way back in 1996 in which Georgia won 74-63. Georgia has fared well against Tennessee under Mark Fox. He is 8-4 all-time against the Volunteers including a 76-75 win in Knoxville this season. In the 12 seasons prior to Fox, Georgia had only beat Tennessee six times. In the game this season, J.J. Frazier led the way with 29 points and six assists and Tyree Crump added 13. Yante Maten was limited to seven points as he fouled out. As of right now, no word if Maten will play on Wednesday.

In terms of rebounds, Charles Claxton is the chairman of the board in the conference tournament for the Dawgs. He cleaned the glass 16 times in a 1992 game against Arkansas. In terms of blocked shots, Dave Bliss had five in 2008 game against Ole Miss in which he also banked a shot with 0.4 seconds left in overtime to give Georgia the two-point win. Younes Idrissi and Rashaad Singleton also had five blocks in the same game in the 2006 clash with Arkansas.

Reggie Tinch, who was one of Georgia's most popular players in the 1990's had seven steals in the 1992 game against Ole Miss. The seven is tied for the most by any SEC player in tournament history.

Speaking of tied for the lead… Levi Stukes had eight 3-point field goals in the 2004 game against Auburn. That too is tied for the most by any SEC player in tournament history. Jody Patton is tied for second for most threes attempted in an SEC game with 17.

A Georgia player has won the SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player three times. In 1981, Dominique Wilkins took home the honor. Vern Fleming did the same two years later in 1983 and most recently Sundiata Gaines won it in 2008.

J.J. Frazier was a first team All-SEC Tournament selection last year. Terrence Woodbury as well as his teammate Sundiata Gaines were selected in 2008. Other first team All-SEC Tournament selections include: Alex McCaskill in 1940, Bob Healey in 1950, Wilkins in 1981, Fleming in 1983, Pat Hamilton in 1988 and Ray Harrison in 1997.

Remember there was no SEC Tournament played from 1953 to 1978.
