Dawgs flip Monty Rice

Exactly three weeks ago, inside linebacker Monty Rice announced his intentions to go forward with a commitment to LSU. He told UGASports, who made the trip for his announcement, that was his final decision. He also said at the time he had almost gone in a different direction.

"It was real close," Rice said. "I was real close to picking Georgia. I probably would have picked Georgia two weeks ago."

In recruiting, nothing is ever final until the recruit shows up on campus. Today, the three-star linebacker changed his mind and committed to Georgia.

Rice told Rivals.com that Georgia "was just a better overall choice for me."

UGASports reported last Friday that Rice had a student application in the system at Georgia and that is had been updated after his commitment to the Tigers

Rice visited Georgia in December right before committing to LSU and liked the vibe he felt on campus with the other players and recruits.

"They all seem caring and it seems like they like me a lot and want me to be a part of their class," Rice said. "But in the end, you have to do what is best for you because everybody else is going to do what is best for them".

Rice is set to enroll this month at Georgia for the spring semester.

He joins Tray Bishop and Deangelo Gibbs to give Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs three commitments since the calendar flipped to 2017.
