Clothes Dont Make the Man

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer wide receiver Kyle Davis did his best to hide
his Georgia Bulldogs shirt from media on Tuesday afternoon, but the four-star

prospect was forthcoming when addressing his relationship with the team just up
the road.
"I talk to pretty much everyone at Georgia," Davis said. "The
relationship I have with those coaches is the same that I have with every other
coach. It hasn't been anything more than that. The only reason I've been up
there so much is because it's right down the street, and it's convenient."
Since Brian Schottenheimer's arrival to Athens and the move of Bryan McClendon to receivers coach, the Bulldogs have upped their priority for the
big bodied pass catcher.
"I think that's fair to say," Davis said of the Bulldogs increasing their
pursuit. "I don't know why that is, but I think so. Every coach is trying to
make Wide Receiver U when they're trying to recruit a wide receiver. That's what
(McClendon) has been telling me."
With summer around the corner, teams will be clamoring to get the No. 169 player
in the nation on campus, but he's slow playing his plans.
"It'll just be school summer workouts, school 7-on-7, and the Opening," Davis
said. "I haven't talked to any coaches about visiting over the summer, but I
think I will soon when it actually gets here. I don't have any planned stuff. It
just kind of pops up."
Could the Bulldogs earn a trip during Dawg Night, an event Davis attended last
summer?
"I might," Davis said. "I think so."
Getting Davis to visit will be no easy task, as the South Carolina Gamecocks
still hold his commitment, and they're working on establishing a connection
deeper than just the recruiting trail.
"It's not so much from a recruiting standpoint anymore," Davis said of South
Carolina. "We're building a relationship. It's a 'Hey, how are you?' type of
thing. It hasn't been too much about recruiting or anything. They just want to
try and get me back up there soon, and I'm trying to make the effort to get back
up there as well. I'd say I'm closest with [G.A] Mangus on that staff. We talk
about every other day."
Clearly Gamecock fans are already excited about what the Lawrenceville native
can bring to fold, comparing him to one of their greats early on.
"Coaches are looking at me at outside wide receiver," Davis said. "I can play a
little slot. Coaches haven't compared me to anyone, but fans like to say Alshon
Jeffery."
For the time being, both teams will monitor some health issues that are holding
the talented receiver off of spring workouts, but Davis says it's no cause for
long-term concern.
"I've just got to get back healthy," Davis said. "I'm not going to go too in
depth on it. My progress hasn't really stopped. I've been training. Sometimes, I
push it a little too hard, which is why I'm here right now. I'll probably give
it two or three weeks or so."
As for his senior season with one of the state's most talented teams, Davis
feels his role is clearly defined as a veteran.
"I'm hoping to bring some leadership," Davis said. "It looks like we're all over
the place right now. I think our seniors are going to step up and take control.
That's pretty much all we need is some leadership, and we're straight."
