Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart.
Smart didn't have to wait long before receiving good news from the four-star
linebacker as Dixon decided to pull the trigger for the Bulldogs on Christmas.
"It was a lot of things," Dixon said. "I always wanted to go somewhere I could
leave a legacy and leave a mark. With Georgia being in a drought for so long and
with a new coaching staff coming in, I feel like that's something that can be
done with the new coaching staff. With the players coming in now, we're going to
try to turn it into something it hasn't been in a while."
In the end, Dixon knew he wanted to be Bulldog and didn't see a reason to wait
any longer.
"I just felt like it was a good time and I already knew what I wanted to do and
where my mind was at," Dixon said.
Mark Richt's staff recruited the Georgia native, but never offered a
scholarship. The change in coaches at Georgia is seen as a positive by the
newest commitment.
"I always liked the school," Dixon said. "It's not to say I didn't like the last
coaching staff, Mark Richt and Jeremy Pruitt, but it wasn't the right feel when
I used to go up there. I didn't get a great response. With Kirby recruiting me
the way he did at Alabama and him coming over here as a Georgia guy, it was only
right."
The next move for Dixon is to begin recruiting his peers to Georgia, starting
with teammates Nigel Warrior, Deangelo Gibbs and early enrollee Chad Clay, who is already committed to Georgia.
"Of course I'll be talking to Deangelo and then Nigel and Chad too," Dixon said.
"I'm going to try to bring on William Poole III, Will Ignont from
Alabama, and then as many lineman as we can get in front of us. I want to get as
many people as we can get to commit and bring a national title to Georgia."
Dixon chose the Bulldogs over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia
Tech, North Carolina, Tennessee, among others. He joins DeVonta Smith and
Richard LeCounte in Georgia's 2017 class.
