By the Numbers...the Rose Bowl win

1 – With the win on Monday over Oklahoma, Georgia earned a spot in the College Football Championship and a chance to finish No. 1 for the first time since 1982

3-1 – Record by Georgia in bowl games that went into overtime. The Dawgs had wins over Purdue in 2000 Outback Bowl and in the 2004 Capital One Bowl and now add on the 2018 Rose Bowl against Oklahoma. The only loss was to Michigan State in the 2012 Outback Bowl.

4 – Touchdowns that Michel scored in the Rose Bowl. It is the first time that a Georgia player has scored four touchdowns in a single bowl game. The last FBS player to have at least three rushing touchdowns and a touchdown reception in a bowl game was Leonard Fournette in the 2015 Texas Bowl.

5 – Sacks by Georgia’s defense. It tied the season-high for the Bulldogs (five vs. Florida) and it also tied the season-high against Baker Mayfield.

7 - Javon Wims now has seven touchdown receptions this season including one in five of the his last seven games.

8 – Total touchdowns that Michel has in his four career bowl games (6 rushing, 2 receiving). From what I have read, Michel is the first Georgia player to have a touchdown in four straight bowl games.

9.3 – The average rush yards per attempt by the Dawgs, including Michel’s 16.5 and Chubb’s 10.4 yards per carry.

10 – Career-high in tackles by Lorenzo Carter in the Rose Bowl, but people will always remember his blocked kick.

11 – Tackles by Roquan Smith. It was the fourth time this season he had ten or more in a game. The Butkus Award winner now has 124 on the season.

13 – Wins this season which ties the team record from the 2002 season (Mark Richt’s second season as well). The difference of the two seasons is that Kirby Smart still has one more game remaining.

16 – Career interceptions by Dominick Sanders after the pick early in the fourth quarter. That ties the Bulldog record for most career interceptions also held by Jake Scott and Bacarri Rambo.

17 – The lead in points that Oklahoma had over Georgia with six seconds remaining in the first half.

31 – Bowl wins by the Georgia program. Only Alabama (39) and USC (35) have more bowl wins in their history. Oklahoma could have tied Georgia at 30, but that was not the case.

44 – The career touchdown rushes by Chubb after the two against the Sooners. He is now tied for fifth place in SEC history with that total (Dalton Hilliard).

48 – The amount of points Georgia allowed to Oklahoma. It was the most the Bulldogs allowed in a bowl game and it was the first time they allowed that much in a win since the 1996 Auburn game in which they won 56-49 in four overtimes.

54 – Georgia broke a team record for most points scored in a bowl game (old record was 45 in 2013 Capital One Bowl).

55 – The 55-yard field goal by Rodrigo Blackenship was not only the longest field goal in Rose Bowl history, not only the longest by a Georgia player in bowl history, it was the only 50+ yard field goal in his career.

70.4 – Completion percentage by Jake Fromm since the loss to Auburn including his 20-for-29 performance against Oklahoma.

71 – The temperature in degrees Fahrenheit at kickoff.

75 – While Michel’s 75-yard run wasn’t the longest run by a Georgia player in a bowl game, it was the longest that went for a touchdown breaking Kent Lawrence’s and Robert Edwards’ record of 74 yards.

93 – More points scored in this Rose Bowl game by Georgia and its opponent compared to the last time Georgia played in a Rose Bowl game (9 total points).

200 to 87 – Baker Mayfield’s passing yards in the first half compared to his passing yards in the second half plus two overtimes.

553 – Career rush yards in three bowl games by Nick Chubb. He netted that many in 64 attempts for an average of 8.6 per run.

1,000/1,000 - Michel now has 1,000 rush yards in two separate seasons and became just the fourth Bulldog to have more than one (Herschel Walker -3, Nick Chubb - 3, Knowshon Moreno - 2).

1,320/1,129 – The rush yards that Chubb and Michel have accumulated so far this season. It is the first time in which a pair of Bulldogs have each run for one thousand yards or more in the same season.

4,744+3,540=8,284 – That’s the total of career rush yards by Chubb and Michel. They are the number one duo in college football history passing Eric Dickerson and Craig James of SMU in the early 1980’s.
