Bulldogs Cruise Past Gardner-Webb 96-67

Takais Brown posted 21 points to lead Georgia (6-1) passed the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (1-6) 96-67 Tuesday evening at Stegeman Coliseum.
Both Levi Stukes and Steve Newman registered season-high scoring outputs with Stukes tallying 20 points and Newman adding 12. Mike Mercer collected double-digit points for the seventh time in as many attempts this season scoring 15 in the contest.
"I was pleased with the effort tonight," said head coach Dennis Felton. "We took care of business and won."
The Bulldogs were electric from three-point range in the opening half connecting on 5-of-5 outside the arc in the early minutes. The score remained within six for Gardner-Webb until Georgia soared ahead with a 20-3 run in just over seven minutes of action.
The Bulldogs' largest lead of the half came at 2:09 when Brown hit the layup off a long pass from Sundiata Gaines giving Georgia a 22-point advantage. For the fourth time this season the Bulldogs held their opponent to 31 points or less in the first half as they entered the locker room up 48-28. Stukes and Newman were both perfect from beyond the three-point line hitting seven of Georgia's nine treys.
Despite knocking down three three-pointers within five minutes, the Runnin' Bulldogs would come no closer than 19 points for the remainder of the contest. The Bulldogs' largest lead came with 5:53 left when Terrance Woodbury hit a short jumper from the baseline giving Georgia a 38-point edge.
Georgia is now 6-0 this season when shooting 50 percent or better and when out-rebounding its opponent. The Bulldogs finished the game with a 56.1 field goal percentage while dominating on the boards pulling down 50 to Gardner-Webb's 32.
For the first time in Georgia's history the Bulldogs have scored at least 95 points in four of their opening seven contests. Formerly, the fastest Bulldog team to score at least 95 points four times was the 1968-69 squad, which needed nine contests to do so.
The Bulldogs will enjoy an 11-day break from game action before taking on the No. 18-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., on Dec. 16. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 with tip-off set for 5:00 p.m. (ET).
