Notes: Brother, Travis, is a tight end for the Bearcats. Jason walked on as a linebacker in 2006 and redshirted. Was given a scholarship and moved to offensive line (center/guard) by then-head coach Brian Kelly in '07 before appearing in nine games. In '08, started 13 games - 12 at left guard and one (West Virginia) at center as an injury replacement. Sustained a high ankle sprain and did not play against Marshall. Started all 13 games at left guard in '09. Shifted to center for the '10 season and started all 12 games. Did not lift at the Combine because he had the flu.
Positives: Very athletic and light on his feet. Has quick hands and battles and scraps to maintain positioning. Outstanding weight-room worker. Self-made and ultra-competitive (former walk-on linebacker). Good agility to work in space. Timed the fastest of any offensive linemen at the Combine - clocked as low as a 4.89-second 40-time.
Negatives: Very undersized - lacks ideal height, bulk and bulk strength and is too easily rag-dolled, controlled and walked back to the quarterback. Average arm length. Too small and plays small. Cannot drive defenders off the line or generate movement. Struggles to get second-level fits.
Summary: Short, squatty, try-hard overachiever who compares favorably to Vikings backup C Jon Cooper and could contend for a job as a swing, interior backup if he can add some bulk.
