Carter won't be at Ohio State in 2010-11

It appears that Ohio State will be down a receiver going into the 2010 season with news coming out that Duron Carter will not be with the team this season and will instead be enrolling at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College. BuckeyeGrove.com has learned of this shocking news from sources close to the Carter family and later confirmed it with Coffeyville head coach Darian Dulin.

"(Duron) is supposed to report here today," Dulin said.

During Duron's freshman year he caught 13 passes for 176 yards and 1 touchdown. Carter was ruled ineligible for the Rose Bowl game and had worked hard during the last two terms to regain eligibility for the 2010 season.

Ohio State's loss is Coffeyville's gain for the upcoming season and while Buckeye fans are disappointed in this news it will mean a lot for his new program to get him for at least a season.

"We are very excited but this is Coffeyville so we are supposed to have players like this and of this caliber," Dulin added. "We are always looking for quality receivers and he will be an asset here."

Carter could re-enroll at Ohio State in June of 2011 if he gets his academics back in order and would still be able to compete for three seasons with the Buckeyes. The Ohio State coaching staff has not had much contact with the staff at Duron's new school and most of this move has been facilitated by the Carter family.

"Most of this is through the family, we don't know what Ohio State's future plans are for him," Dulin said.

The loss of Carter will open up the competition for the 3rd receiver slot for Ohio State with DeVier Posey and Dane Sanzenbacher locked in as the top two receivers. Taurian Washington led the way during the spring in three receiver sets but expect players like Chris Fields and incoming freshman James Louis to try and lead the way to that spot as well as a stable of other talented receivers on the roster currently.
