Dalton off the team

The University of Missouri announced on Friday morning that freshman quarterback Blaine Dalton has been dismissed from the Tiger football program.

The official release stated that Dalton was dismissed for "a violation of team conduct policies."

PowerMizzou.com confirmed that the freshman from Blue Springs South was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated at 1:16 a.m. on Friday. Dalton was arrested for "failure to drive within a single lane" and "operating an unregistered motor vehicle" according to University police.

Columbia attorney Bogdan Susan told PowerMizzou.com that he will be representing Dalton and confirmed the charges on those issues. Susan met with Dalton on Friday afternoon.

Dalton had previously been arrested this spring on a felony charge that was later reduced to a misdemeanor. He had been suspended at that point.

The Tigers open the season next Saturday with Blaine Gabbert as the starting quarterback. Dalton had been in competition with Jimmy Costello for the No. 2 job prior to his dismissal.

Missouri officials have said there will be no further comment on the matter.
