Player/Hometown/High School:David Nelson Wichita Falls (Tx.) Ryan
Hgt/Wgt: 6-foot-5, 215-lb
Position: Wide receiver
Fall Depth Chart Projection: 1st team wide receiver
Spring Review: Before he went down with a foot injury, he appeared to be well on his way to being one of the top overall spring performers, being designated as a player who was on fire during the weekly On Fire, Misfire feature. Even after the injury he was still very much involved in the offense a mentor to the younger players at his position.
Fall Projection: At this time last year Nelson was little more than an afterthought. Frankly, through his first three years on the squad he had accomplished very little and it appeared as though that wasn't about to change anytime soon. Then late last season he started to come on somewhat, making the most of his limited opportunities. Based on his production over the last half of last season, he enters this fall as one of the few proven pass-catchers on the team and a sure bet to begin the season as a starter. He isn't much of a deep threat, but he is a go-to guy on the underneath and intermediate routes.
