Dawgs sign two for hoops

University of Georgia basketball coach Dennis Felton on Wednesday announced the signing of a pair of home-state guards to national letters-of-intent to attend Georgia and play next year for the Bulldogs: Travis Leslie of Decatur, Ga., and Ebuka Anyaorah of Suwanee, Ga.

"We are just thrilled to have Travis and Ebuka join our program," Felton said. "They each have unique qualities that will certainly benefit our team."

Leslie, at 6-4 and 180 pounds, is currently a senior at Columbia High School in Decatur. He was named this spring as the Georgia Class AAAA Player of the Year by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Leslie averaged 21.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for the Eagles, who won the 2008 4A state title, their second in three years. He is the 18th-best small forward prospect in the nation, according to online recruiting service Rivals.com.

"Travis is an incredible athlete," Felton said. "Georgia fans will find him reminiscent of Dominique in the way he leaps and attacks the rim with his amazing ability to dunk."

Anyaorah, a 6-4, 170-pound guard, is a senior at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee. He averaged 26.3 points - second-best in Gwinnett County behind fellow UGA signee Howard Thompkins of the Wesleyan School - and 8.3 rebounds this season for the Bulldogs, who went 14-12 overall.

"Ebuka, who is also very athletic, is an outstanding deep shooter," Felton said. "He'll be a terrific addition to our perimeter offense, and he also has a great feel for how to play the game."

Leslie and Anyaorah join three high school seniors that signed with Georgia during the early signing period last November. Thompkins, a 4th-team Parade Magazine All-American, 6-0 guard Dustin Ware of Powder Springs, Ga., and 6-9 forward Drazen Zlovaric of Novi Sad, Serbia.
