Six Tigers on coaches' Freshman All-SEC team
Six Auburn players were named to the Freshman All-SEC Team, the league office announced Thursday.
Antoine Carter, Zac Etheridge, Ryan Pugh, Chaz Ramsey, Ryan Shoemaker and Lee Ziemba were all voted to the team by the SEC coaches, giving Auburn more selections than any other league school. No other team had more than four selections.
Pugh, Ramsey and Ziemba, who are all true freshmen, gave Auburn three of the six offensive linemen that were named to the All-Freshman Team.
Ziemba has started all 12 games at right tackle, becoming the first true freshman offensive lineman to start a season opener at Auburn during the Tommy Tuberville era. He has also been named a first-team Freshman All-American by Rivals.com.
Ramsey has started the last nine games at offensive guard for Auburn, while Pugh also joined the starting lineup at left tackle in the fourth game of the season, and has started six of the last nine games, with an injury holding him out of the starting lineup three times.
Etheridge, a redshirt freshman, has started 11 games at safety for Auburn, and is the team's third-leading tackler with 57 stops (33 solo, 24 assists). He has five pass break-ups and has forced two fumbles. Etheridge has been named a second-team Freshman All-American by Rivals.com.
Carter, another true freshman, has played in all 12 games at defensive end for Auburn. He has posted 14 tackles (six solo, eight assists), including four for losses and 1.5 quarterback sacks.
Shoemaker, a redshirt freshman, ranks second in the SEC and 16th nationally in punting, averaging 43.2 yards per kick. He has placed 14 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line with just one touchback, and has helped Auburn rank third nationally in net punting (39.3).
Shoemaker, who was also picked to the All-SEC Second Team, has also been named this fall as a first-team Freshman All-American by Rivals.com.
