Big East Week 7 Recap
The host Bearcats lost for the first time this season, falling 28-24 to Louisville. Cincinnati fumbled twice inside Louisville's 20. Ben Mauk threw for 324 yards and three TDs. Cincinnati had won nine in a row dating to last season.
Next: Saturday, at Pittsburgh.
The Huskies dropped their first game of the season, a 17-16 setback at Virginia. UConn forced three turnovers and converted each into points. The Huskies managed just 254 total yards (78 on the ground) and were 1-for-13 on third-down conversions.
Next: Friday, vs. Louisville.
Brian Brohm threw for 350 yards and three TDs as the Cardinals beat host Cincinnati 28-24; it was the Bearcats' first loss. Brohm finished 28 of 38 with no interceptions and threw TD passes in the first, second and third quarters. It was the Cardinals' ninth victory in their past 10 meetings with the Bearcats.
Next: Friday, at Connecticut.
The Panthers' fourth-down gamble in the second overtime didn't pay off in a 48-45 loss to visiting Navy. After Navy kicked a field goal on its possession in the second overtime, Pitt faced a third-and-goal from the Middies' 2. Two passes fell incomplete to give Navy the victory. LeSean McCoy ran for 165 yards and three TDs.
Next: Saturday, vs. Cincinnati.
Ray Rice ran for 196 yards and three TDs as the Scarlet Knights pounded host Syracuse 38-14 in their first road game of the season. Rice scored on runs of 7, 1 and 2 yards as Rutgers snapped its two-game losing streak. It was the 18th 100-yard game of his career. After falling behind 14-0 early, Rutgers scored 24 consecutive points to close the first half, then cruised from there.
Next: Thursday, vs. USF.
The Orange took a 14-0 lead on visiting Rutgers, but couldn't hold it and fell 38-14. Syracuse scored on its first two possessions, then was shut down. QB Andrew Robinson was sacked six times. TB Curtis Brinkley finished with a season-high 98 yards.
Next: Saturday, vs. Buffalo.
South Florida
QB Matt Grothe threw two TD passes and ran for two more scores before being replaced in the third quarter as the Bulls mauled visiting UCF 64-12 for their eighth consecutive victory. USF converted three UCF turnovers into points in the first half en route to a 29-10 halftime lead. USF limited UCF TB Kevin Smith, who entered as the nation's leading rusher (172.0 ypg), to 55 yards on 18 carries.
Next: Thursday, at Rutgers.
West Virginia
The Mountaineers were off last week.
Next: Saturday, vs. Mississippi State.
