Virginia Tech Picks Up Palmetto State Commitment

Sumter (SC) offensive tackle Kyle Nunn has had a busy Summer, going to camps and working out to get ready for the 2006 football season. His hard work turned into three ACC offers in the last few weeks and now he's decided to end his recruiting with a commitment so he can focus on the upcoming football season with his high school team.

This afternoon, Nunn, a 6-5, 265lbs tackle, gave his verbal commitment to Virginia Tech during a phone conference with Coach Frank Beamer and Coach Wiles.

"Its been kind of crazy around here with everyone in the house testy," said Nunn, "so after some careful consideration, I felt like it would be best to get it done early."

Nunn's high school coaches, according to him, were happy for him but surprised that he made such an early decision.

"I think they felt that I'd wait out for some more offers," said Nunn. "Honestly, I really did consider South Carolina when they showed some interest early, but the offer just never came and I felt like they were dragging their feet. They told me they liked me at camp and would probably offer and actually gave me the impression that I would have had an offer by last Friday."

But after his visit to Virginia Tech, they Hokies moved in the front of his favorites.

"It was just a great place," said the two-star lineman. "The people were nice, the atmosphere was very good and I felt comfortable there."

Nunn's mother felt comfortable as well, which was important to him. "My mom wanted me close to home, but she went up there (Virginia Tech) with me twice and she liked it and said she'd feel comfortable with me there."

According to Nunn, the Hokies have told him he'll have an opportunity to battle for early playing time and are looking at him as a tackle right now.

Nunn, a 6-5, 265lbs tackle, did extremely well at the Virginia Tech football camp while there and was thought to be one of the best offensive linemen on hand by many.

"I'm at peace with my decision and feel like a weight is off of me," said Nunn. "I don't plan on any more visits and I can get on with my senior year."
