UGA Practice Notebook
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia football team held its ninth practice of the spring Friday afternoon, a two-hour session in full pads on the Woodruff practice fields. Following practice, head coach Mark Richt was pleased with his team's performance and its progress through offseason workouts.
"Today's practice mirrored last Wednesday's session," said Richt. "We had a pretty good day. It was a battle, we had a long, physical practice. Some guys struggled with stamina in the heat but we still got a lot out of it."
Richt went on to express satisfaction with the offensive side of the ball in particular.
"Overall the offense had a very good day," said Richt. "We practiced a lot of situations. I would have to say the edge certainly went to the offense, especially on the goal line, where they scored a touchdown on six out of eight tries. Thomas Brown, Danny Ware and Tony Milton all had good days running the ball, our receivers made some pretty good catches and D.J. Shockley threw the ball well. On the defensive side, guys were making good hits, especially Greg Blue. On the two goal line stops, he put some big licks on people."
Richt also announced a position change on the defense.
"Marcus Howard has now been moved to defensive end for the remainder of the spring," said Richt. "He has had some experience there before when we were shifting him back and forth from the linebacker spot. He has shown good signs of being a solid pass rusher and I'm excited about his potential from that position."
Georgia will return to the practice fields Friday. Spring drills conclude with the annual G-Day game on April 9 in Sanford Stadium.
